White blood cells fight bacterial infections in our bodies. So an increase in white blood cells from their normal level would often indicate a bacterial infection. Very often an antibiotic is prescribed to treat the condition.
Your body will have a lot of "bad" bacteria and will make you sick. (there is "good" bacteria that makes your skin smooth which is why hand sanitizers only kill 99.9% instead of 100%)
If you have too much, then your white blood cells will mistake your red blood cells for the "bad" bacteria that make you sick.
(I think that's how you get blood cancer)
Normal white blood cell count is 4000 to 10,000/ cubic mm. When ever infection invades the person, the white count increases. This happens to tackle the infection by white blood cells. Incidentally, in intracellular infections like malarial fever, typhoid fever, rickettsial fevers and all viral fevers, the white blood cell count is not raised. This happens, probably because the white blood cells can not go and engulf the microorganisms there. So in disease conditions, where white blood cells are low in number, the defence mechanism is defective.
A low WBC's can be caused by immunosuppressive medications, viral infections, or toxic reactions.
Decreased white blood cells is a low count of white blood cells in the body called leukopenia

Aids.
Cancer
A white blood cell (WBC) count determines the concentration of white blood cells in the patient's blood. A differential determines the percentage of each of the five types of mature white blood cells.
The white blood cells are the blood cells in your body that consist of your immune system. If your white blood count is too low, it will be hard for you to fight infections.
The normal white blood cell count for an adult will be between 4,000 and 10,000 white blood cells per microlitre.
The white cell count increases

In a CBC or complete blood cell count they measure 3 kinds of blood cells red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.

Can a bladder infection cause a low white blood count
Why my white blood cell count is 5.9??
i have a white cell count of 13.7 is this high This is above the normal range.
There are billions of white blood cells that are in the circulatory system. A normal white blood count is between 4,500 to 10,000 white blood cells per microliter.

For adults, a high white blood cell count is 10,500 leukocytes per microliter of blood. Average white blood cell count is 4,500 to 10,500.
The white blood cell count measures the relative concentrations of white blood cells in a sample of blood - lymphocytes, basophils, neutrophils, megakaryocytes, eosinophils and monocytes.
you have to count the amount of platilets and blood cells and white blood cells and T-cells
