Under Eisenhower in 1960 one of our U-2 spy planes crashed in Soviet airspace, causing worsening tensions between the two superpowers. Khrushchev canceled a meeting between him and Eisenhower in Washington D.C. because Eisenhower admitted to violating Soviet airspace and was unapologetic.
