I would use JB WELD. $3.99 Available most anywhere. It will do a good job for you. Mark
If you still have the backing plate available you can use it RTV silicone adhesive to mount the glass to the backing plate. If you have not yet purchased the mirror glass we do have them available for $19.99 shipped and they include adhesive mounting tabs designed specifically for mounting glass to the backing plate. Thanks Jack
Super glue is best for this
If you are asking about a side view mirror it just "POPS" out. The mirror is encased in a plastic backing which has a hollow in it that fits right over the mechanical part that moves the mirror. The way I did it was to push the mirror in at the bottom by hand.
Go to the local salvage yard and look at the same car and maybe even guess and check how to remove/repair. If you bust it, nobody will know. The glass is glued to a plastic backing assembly, which is attached to the power mirror motors. Very difficult to remove the backing assembly without breaking it. If your glass fell out of the backing assembly, check with Subaru or your local parts stores to see if the glass is available all by itself. If it is, hurray, you can just glue it to the plastic backing assembly, and done. However, if your glass is just cracked and still well-attached, it is best to replace the entire mirror assembly. You can also glue the new glass on top of the cracked one, and if you line them up right, only the most careful examination will see this. If you choose to replace the entire mirror assembly, open door, remove any dust plugs, remove any screws, then pry the inside black plastic protector off. You will now see 2 or 3 screws holding the mirror to the door. Before you get all happy, follow the wires from the mirror to the connector, which hopefully is not inside the big door panel. If it is inside, you must remove the big door panel first to gain access to the connector (watch out for the speaker connections as the big panel comes off). If you can unhook the connector, remove the 2 or 3 screws, and out comes the mirror. Hopefully the one you get from the junkyard is the same color as yours! Reassemble, and done. Hope the motors in your new mirror work!
Yes, there is a glue that can be used to re-glue a side car mirror. It is not an actual glue but more of an adhesive. That adhesive is construction silicone adhesive that is free of latex.
If the glass is broken, They make a replacement glass you can by at NAPA it glues in. If the plastic mirror assembly is broken, Then go to junk yard or GM dealer and by a new one. Replace whole assembly.
-There is a special product for this, made by 'Loctite' and called 'auto mirror adhesive' -available in auto parts stores
Pop off the plastic cover on the inside of the door, opposite the mirror. There are just a few bolts to unscrew, and a wire to unplug, and then the entire assembly just pops off. if it is a lightweight mirror, use VERY STRONG adhesive padding.
Look to see if there is a small set screw on back of the mirror assembly. Loosen screw and the button should slide out. Clean old adhesive off the window and button thoroughly (small flat razon blade works great). Apply the setup adhesive and allow 2 minutes to dry. Then apply liberal drop of adhesive to the button, and place button on the windshield. Allow 15 minutes to set up, and then reapply rear view mirror.
It's not easy. There are five plastic retainer clips that have to be released to allow the cover on the front side of the mirror assembly to be removed. Two on top, Two on the botton, and one on the drivers side (near botton of side). Do this on a warm day when the plastic is more workable. You can only access them from the mirror side between the mirror frame and the mirror assembly body. It's not easy. When you finally are able to get the cover off the bulb is a snap to replace. Just turn the bulb assembly 90 degrees and it lifts out. Good Luck.
