Generally the type of flowers you would get during a homecoming should match the outfits you have both chosen to wear. You can also contact your local flower shop and tell them the colors you're wearing and have them tell you what goes well with them.
In my opinion, the cost of flowers is going to be more dependent on what type of flower you are buying and how far the flowers must be transported rather than on what the flowers will be used for.

How To Select Wedding Flowers Choosing the right wedding flowers is one of the most important decisions a couple planning their wedding will have to make. There are many options out there, but making the right choice can be a difficult decision for couples. The first being the color scheme that will be used for the bridesmaid’s attire. Will this be a formal affair or a simple, but elegant small event? Selecting a wedding florist should be done well in advance if your wedding is going to take place in a month that is highly popular and flowers will be greatly in demand. You must also consider the type of florist you will be working with. Is it a small florist where large amounts of flowers will be hard to obtain? Will it take longer to satisfy the customers needs? A recommendation from family or friends is a good way to start when choosing the right florist. They have already been through this and can be helpful in giving advice as to the services that you will need. Determining what type of budget you will be working with will allow you to choose the type and quantity of flower service you can afford. When first working with your florist, ask to see pictures of their work. Most florist will have books that you can look through to see their work. When consulting with a florist, make sure that you are speaking to a florist and not a salesperson. It would be beneficial to take notes as you make your choices. You should also have your color scheme and what type of centerpieces you will need, and what type of flower arrangements will be used at the ceremony. It is very important to tell your floral designer what type of wedding you are having. If the wedding is going to be held out doors, you will need flowers that will hold up in extreme heat and humidity. Also, determine if your florist will do the actual placing of the flowers at the ceremony and reception. This will determine if you will have to do the arranging of the flowers.

A good way to save money on wedding centerpieces is do them yourself or have a family member who is talented do them. There could be some flowers (even silk flowers as they look very real) with a couple of large candles in the center of the wedding table. On the guests tables perhaps a small fancy lantern with a candle burning; do simple arrangements for guests tables. Example: a nice flat colored or plain glass round dish about 4 x 4" and at one end have some nice stones and at the other end one medium candle with a small one; a few real or silk flowers around the candle. If you get a florist to do your wedding centerpieces suggest more for the head table and something simple, but pretty for the guests tables and it can range from $200 or up depending on what type of flowers you want (if some flowers are out of season.) You have to phone different florists with a plan of what you want.

If you have a genuine complaint which would be: The wrong type of flowers without letting you know (sometimes some flowers are unavailable at that particular time of year); the flowers are wilted or the arrangements and bouquets are poorly made then go to the florist and tell them you want your money back. Keep at them until they do. If you had agreed with the florist on a particular arrangement of flowers or bouquets, but the florist said they may have to replace the flowers with something else if the flowers you wanted were out of season and you signed the contract then you will have to accept it.
