There were rumors that Stetson provided the fedoras for the Temple of Doom, but in actuality the filmmakers went back to Herbert Johnson, who had made the fedoras for Raiders of the Lost Ark previously.

As an aside, for reasons that cannot be fully explained, the hattery went with a block that was different than what was used in Raiders. The felt used on the hat is different. As a result, from the pinch to the taper, to even the crown looks noticeably lower. For both The Last Crusade and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the fedora went back to the same look as it was in Raiders.

The type of hat is called a Fedora.

Actually its known as a Snap Brim Fedora. Indy's and light brown beaver felt with a dark brown ribbon band.

Prices of Fedora's very greatly depending on what materials they're made from(Leather, Wool Felt, or Fur Felt). Whether they are factory (machine) made or classically hand made. General sized or tailor made to fit.

You can get an El Cheapo Fedora for 20 to 50 US Dollars but really you get what you pay for.

The very best Fedora's are made from Fur Felt (Beaver Fur usually) are hand made to fit the wearer and take several weeks to complete and for these kinds of Fedoras you best be willing to pay for the quality as they cost several hundred US Dollars but its guaranteed that you're great great grandson will be wearing that hat (if size is right) and it will look as good as the day you bought it.

If you want an Official and I mean OFFICIAL Indiana Jones Hat then the best place to go would be to Marc Kitter the person that made the original hat for Harrison Ford in all the Indy movies and order one.

The website is:

Again be ready to pay the price for above excellent quality.

EDITED:

Both Marc Kitter of Adventurebilt Deluxe in Germany and Steve Delk of Adventurebilt Hats in the USA made the hats for the fourth Indiana Jones movie, but not the first three. Check out Indygear.com for more information on the Indy hat.

In real life, Indy's hat was custom-made to look good on Harrison Ford.

In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the movie begins with the story of Indy, as a boy, trying to recover the Cross of Coronado. He loses the artifact to a disreputable fortune-hunter, an archaeologist and artifact thief of the kind Indy himself grows up to be. In respect for the kid's spunk and as some sort of a consolation prize, the fortune hunter takes his fedora off and puts it on the young Indy's head. I think we're supposed to assume that it's that same hat Indy wears through all his adventures.

Indiana Jones' hat is a take on fedora hats popular during the period of the films. Jones' fedora is a brown color, a bit more broader with a taller crown, but falls between a traditional fedora and an Australian outback hat.

In the course of the four Indiana Jones movies, there have been various manufacturers that made his iconic fedora. If you look closely enough, the fedora has changed a bit from movie to movie, and even within different parts of each movie.

Raiders of the Lost Ark:

The Raiders fedora was off a "Poet" model from the Herbert Johnson Hat Company. It was then custom made for Harrison Ford and its measurements, material, and how it was tapered, pinched and bashed are different from an off-the-shelf Poet model, giving it its distinctive look. There were two fedoras featured in this film, the "Hero Fedora", and the "Gray Clipper Fedora". The "Hero Fedora" is what you see for most of the film, which is a brown color. The "Gray Clipper Fedora" is seen when Indy is dressed formally on the Pan Am Clipper flight to Nepal...hence the clipper name and the gray in color. He wears it again near the end of the film when he's in Washington. It too was designed by Herbert Johnson.

Temple of Doom:

Eagle-eyed fans have pointed out the "Hero Fedora" is much different here than what was featured in Raiders. Though they went again to Herbert Johnson to build the hats, the block used to make them is different, as well as the material used. As a result, the pinch of the hat is more subtle, the taper more pronounced, even the ribbon not as tight.

The Last Crusade:

Herbert Johnson was used again for Indy's "Hero Fedora", and this time, even though the material is the same as was in Temple of Doom, the block used is similar to what was used for Raiders. Harrison Ford himself did some tweaking on his own. What results is a fedora that is very close to the look of the original Raiders fedora.

The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull:

The filmmakers, and with the help of Indy fans, turned to hatmaker The AdventureBilt Hat Company to make Indiana Jones' "Hero Fedora". The look is the closest yet to the original Raiders fedora, using a hat block that's practically the same. The "Gray Clipper Fedora" is seen here too (train and diner scene).

Because of the popularity of the Indiana Jones franchise, there are four price tiers of fedoras out there and many hatmakers to choose from. The lowest tier (under $100 USD) are those that are made by Dorfman Pacific and you can find them at many retailers. Mid-tier options ($100-300) are from hat makers such as Akubra, Camptown Hat Company, and Todd's Costumes among others. Penman Hats makes "factory-made" Indiana Jones fedoras around the $300-500 USD range. If price isn't an issue, you can buy a fedora just like Indiana Jones and made from the same material and shape, and custom made directly from AdventureBilt themselves. Baron Hats, Optimo Hats and a few others are other places you can have the fedora made custom. Even Herbert Johnson to this day offers the Poet fedora, which as mentioned earlier was the inspiration to Indy's iconic fedora.

If you aren't familiar with the classic series of films about the title character Indiana Jones, it means that another film is likely an action/adventure movie with lots of physical conflict and exciting climactic scenes. What type of revolver does Indiana Jones carry?

Indiana Jones has used several handguns throughout the film series. In "Raiders of the Lost Ark", Indiana Jones is seen firing two handguns, a Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector 2nd Model (referred to as an HE2), and a semi-automatic Browning Hi-Power pistol. The S&W HE2 handed to Belloq in the opening of the film, and later thrown into his suitcase, was a HE2 rented from Stembridge Gun Rentals in Hollywood. It had been modified with a short 4" barrel (the HE2s were manufactured with 5.5" barrels). The front sight had also been modified, and there is a distinctive silver tip on the barrel, a result of the gunmith's work on the front sight. In later scenes, an HE2 rented from Bapty Gun Rentals in London was used. This is the revolver used for all shooting scenes. It also had a short 4" barrel, but with a different, triangular-shaped front sight. The HE2 is a WWI vintage revolver. One revolver was in .45 caliber and the other was .455 caliber (a small difference). During the bar shoot-out scene, and later on Katanga's boat, Indy produces a Browning High Power semi-auto pistol. The Hi-Power was in 9mm caliber, the same as the German handguns of the era. It was also used in WWI, but has continued to be a popular gun. For "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," Indy fires the same S&W HE2 he used in "Raiders" (in fact, the exact same pistol) until Willie Scott drops it out of the car window during the chase scene. For the rest of the film, Indy wears an empty holster (don't ask why). Indiana Jones uses the same revolver for both "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". It is a WWI era Webley 1896 W.G. Army Revolver model, in .455 caliber. This is a British-made military revolver, which is big and heavy. The Smith & Wesson revolver carried by Indiana Jones was not a Hand Ejector Model 2, but a variation on that gun called the M1917 which was produced for the U.S. Army during WWI when the Army couldn't get enough of the new M1911 pistols. Colt also made a similar revolver. The M1917 was produced in .45ACP and had a 5.5-inch barrel and a lanyard loop, just as Indy's sidearm does. The Hand Ejector was produced in .44 caliber and did not have a lanyard loop. Incidentally, the M1917 is still in production today as the Model 22, Model of 1917 The Browning High Power (also known as the "GP" for "Grand Puissance") was not a WWI pistol. John Browning laid out the early design for the pistol in 1925 but it wasn't completed until Dieudonne Saive finished the work after Browning's death. It was not offered for sale until it was selected by the Belgian police in 1935, which is why the pistol is also known as the GP35.
