ENGINE
LUBRICATION
Check the crankcase oil level before
starting the engine and after each eight
(8) hours of continuous use.
Add S.A.E. 5W30 motor oil
as needed. Synthetic 5W30 is acceptable
for all temperatures.
OIL CAPACITY
(18 oz capacity) 5W30
Tighten fill cap/dipstick securely each time
you check the oil level.
NOTE: Oil level FULL mark.
Change the oil every fifty (50) hours or
at least once a year if the snow thrower
is not used for fifty (50) hours.
TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL
1. Position the snow thrower so that
the oil drain plug is at the lowest
point on the engine.
2. When the engine is warm, remove
the oil drain plug and the oil fill
cap/dipstick Drain the oil into a suitable container.
3. After draining all the oil, reinstall the
oil drain plug securely.
4. Fill the engine crankcase with the
recommended motor oil, pouring
slowly. DO NOT OVERFILL.

Pour fresh engine oil into the oil fill tube where you previously removed the dipstick. The crankcase holds 20 ounces. In operating temperatures between -40 and 20 degrees Fahrenheit, Craftsman recommends using synthetic 0W-30 weight oil. In operating temperatures between 0 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit, Craftsman recommends conventional (mineral) detergent 5W-30 weight oil.

The owners manual is available online for both the craftsman model and the tecuseh engine. The Tecumseh owners manual recommends SAE30 for operating at 40F or higher. It recommends SAE10 or SAE 5W30 for -20F to 40F. It recommends SAE 0W30 for 40F down to temperatures below -20F.
I have the same model with the engine oil reccomendations sticker still on it. It reccomends a 5W-30 for most temps. In extreme cold (below 0 F) use 0 weight.

That will depends on the manufacturer and model of transaxle that is under the mower.
For summer use this engine taked sae 30 for winter use sae5-30 or 10w is an acceptable subsitute.
