What type of t-shirts are the most durable?

Answer

Hi, for an undershirt-type use, my husband likes the all cotton Stafford premium weight from JC Penney. For outside, like with a name etc on it, he says Hanes Beefy-T is best.

Clarification:

If by durable you mean "lasts longer," then I would suggest getting T-shirts with a cotton/polyester or cotton/modal blend. The man-made fabrics tend to hold color better than cotton, and the fibers won't pill as easily (except for acrylic, that pills like a @#$%^). The cotton/polyester mix also keeps the T-shirt from shrinking so much as well. You don't have to worry about the cotton/polyester T-shirts from feeling rough and stiff (like most men's dress shirts or T-shirts from screening stores) because many brands (A&F, GAP, AE Outfitters, and designer brands) have T-shirts which are very soft.

If you prefer 100% cotton, I would recommend finding cotton fabrics of Pima, Egyptian, or Supima(R) or Extra Long Stapled (ELS) cotton. Pima and Supima are not the same. Supima is a registered trademark and a standard for pima cotton. Pima cotton is comparable to Egyptian cotton in that the cotton is a higher quality fiber compared to upland cotton. Longer stapled cotton is much smoother, softer, more absorbent, and is more expensive than upland cotton. Longer stapled cotton also do not pill as much as upland cotton.
