∙ 12y agoThe WWII Sumner class destroyer USS Maddox was attacked by the North Viet Navy 135th TB squadron on 02 August 1964 and was involved in the second "incident" accompanied by the destroyer USS Turner Joy on 04 August 1964. This second "incident" may not have involved actual naval units belonging to North Vietnam.
The destroyer USS Higbee was bombed by a NVAF MiG17 in 1972, her aft 5" mount was destroyed.
The cruiser USS Oklahoma City had a near miss from the same air attack.
