President Roosevelt has been credited with saving the western world of democracy due to his role in World War 2.

  • FDR began to send military equipment, food and medicines to the UK prior to the entry of the USA into World War 2. He crated the Lend Lease Act that would provide assistance to allied nations during the war.
  • FDR maintained continuous contact with the Prime Minister of the UK (England).
  • He saw that the US began to start a buildup of ships, planes and artillery for the US Forces and encouraged men to join the Military Forces which many did because it was the time of the depression. The military provided jobs for them.
  • He tried to negotiate with Japan to get them to stop the murdering and invasion tactics they were using and to restore the oil purchases the Japanese needed so desperately. He had no idea the Japanese would specifically bomb Pearl Harbor on 12-7-1941 but may have hoped they would do something to make Americans want to go to war.
  • He got the US Congress and Senate to declare war on Japan and later they chose to fight in Europe after Hitler declared war on them.
  • He was the Commander in Chief (head of the military forces of the USA) during the entire war until he died.
  • He saw to it that the US forces and Allied forces were well supplied and got the USA completely involved in the war effort and supported war bond drives. He saw to it that the blacks and women were hired to work in the war manufacturing factory and ship yards.
  • He assisted his military leaders as they needed help to do the job of defeating the German Nazis and the Japanese Military.
  • He became part of the Big 3 leadership of the Allied Forces. They made the biggest decisions of the war against Japan and German Axis Forces and how the European Countries would be controlled and restored after the war was over. They also made decisions about the places Japan had invaded.
  • He was a terrific negotiator and leader during the war. One of his momentous decisions was to endorse and support the creation of the atomic bomb. Unfortunately he was suckered in by Joe Stalin and let the Russian occupy Poland and half of Germany
