Hadrian's Wall was used to protect Britianna (Today known as Britan or The United Kingdom, England, yeah you know what I'm talking about) anyways, if any invaders made it over the wall at all, there were tall mountains (which probably really tired them out) then a whole bunch of other tricky obstacles and then a HUGE (and I mean HUGE) valley, so it was pretty much impossible to invade Britianna. hope this helps

The purpose of Hadrian's wall could be called defensive. It was there with its posts and forts to prevent border raids and give an alarm if a large army was spotted. It also (supposedly) marked the limit of the Roman Empire.
