the Russians strategy against napoleon was the scorched earth policy. when napoleon learned how czar Alexander (ruler of Russia at time) was defying him, he led a grand army of 600,000 men into Russia. at the time , napoleon was known for not playing by the rules in his battles, so the Russians took a page from his book. as napoleons army marched into Russia, the Russians kept retreating and retreating. napoleon was arrogant and only brought 3 weeks of supplies, thinking it would be over quickly. but as the Russians retreated and retreated, they burned down their crops, farms, and villages, thus the scorched earth policy. then they kept running to the heart of Russia to let the harsh Russian winter deal with the rest of the grand army. napoleon had entered into Russia with 600,000 men but in the end, he only left with 100,000, losing 500,000 men to starvation, harsh weather, desertion and raids by the Russian cossacks. the Russians strategy, once napoleon's own, had annihilated half a million men...
