Born April 23, 1564 or thereabouts in Stratford on Avon.

Probably went to school at King's New School (now Edward VI School) in Stratford.

Got married at the age of 18 around November 27, 1582 to Anne Hathaway (no, not the actress) who gave birth to their first child Susanna in March of 1583. They had twins called Judith and Hamnet in 1585.

Sometime thereafter William left to get work in London, and started working in the theatre community.

He started writing plays around 1590.

In 1593, when the theatres were closed due to an outbreak of plague, Shakespeare published a long poem Venus and Adonis which made him a pile of money.

He used this money to buy his way into a partnership in the newly formed theatre company The Lord Chamberlain's Men in 1594.

His son Hamnet died in 1596.

In 1599 he bought a share in the newly constructed Globe Theatre, which became the new home of the company.

In 1603 Queen Elizabeth died and the new King became the patron of Shakespeare's company, making it The King's Men.

In 1613 Shakespeare retired and returned to his home in Stratford.

He died April 23, 1616.
