What was a Roman theater called?

[Edit]

Ampitheatre

A Roman theatre was called an amphitheater.

As regards to the first answer, an amphitheater (or 2 theater(2 semi circles)) was used to stage gladiatorial contest. A circus maximus was used for chariot racing. Our modern concept of theatre was very rare in ancient rome, however they probably took the name for it from the Greeks, as they did so many things, and called it an odeon.
