Pre-September it would have been peaceful. Depending on who you where, those who fought would have been waiting around near the south coast of England up until mid-September where they would fight in 3 battles; Stamford bridge, Gate Fulford and the Battle of Hastings. Those who prayed, would either be praying or working on the land. Those who worked ie. peasants would be working all-day everyday. Near the south when William Duke of Normandy invaded and in the North when Hardrada invaded you would have been killed.
In a sense, the Norman lords live very comfortably, compared to everyone else. They had very large estates, with large incomes, and they could do pretty much as they pleased.
They did have some problems, however, and these included resentment and opposition from the people of the country, who very much resented being governed by foreigners who could not even speak their language and did not bother to learn. In the early days of the Norman dynasty, the king and his nobles had to build castles for their own protection all over the land, but this passed.
Wealthy people of that time did not have to do the backbreaking physical work relegated to servants and poor farmers. Those of the upper classes had better food, lodging and clothing than most other people, and may have had a better education. They probably also had some gold, jewelry, horses or other valuables and probably had access to some forms of entertainment, such as falconry and equestrian games. However, affluent people in 1066 were exposed to disease and injury almost as often as the poor, and had little opportunity to practice good hygiene. By modern standards, their lives would be considered dull, harsh and short.
they ate and drank and had shelter, just like the average person today. although they sound rich, they were just servants of the king!
They lived all over the world as they do today. Evidence shows that Native Americans lived in America some 14,000 years ago, and all of Europe was populated.
