2.50 a carton--they were approximately 25 cents a pack back then. My hubby was 13 then and would sneak off and buy a pack at a little mom and pop store that was NOT close to his house. Had he gone to the one by his house--the owner would have told his dad.

Around $AU0.20 for a regular pack of 20 cork tip including tax. In 1963 the Australian Government increased the tax by four cents per pack raising the price of Peter Stuyvesant from $AU0.33 to $AU0.37.

The answer "it would of cost 5 to 10 cents back in 1955" is so untrue it makes my head spin. The cost of a pack of cigarettes was $ .25 in 1955 which translates to $2.50 per carton. The person who answered this question is either too young to remember or simply answered to see his words put in print!

A nickel. And you still had enough money for a piece of kidney pie, a penny whistle, AND a bus ride to Maine St.
