Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future
Both the Forever War and Starship Troopers are futuristic war stories that deal more with individual soldiers. Also, John Scalzi's Old Man's War series is similar in the fact that it is military SF. In my opinion, though, Ender's Game is completely original and there is nothing else like it.
At first Greek militarist consisted of aristocratic cavalry soldiers, or nobles on horseback. After 700 BC it changed the military system to hoplites, heavily armed infantry soldiers, or referred to as foot soldiers. These soldiers carried a round shield, a short sword, and a very long spear.
Of course heroes are in reallife. They are cops, firefighters, security guards and military soldiers. These are well known as real heroes.
Carthage was a powerful city state empire in the period before the first Punic War and also in the 2nd Punic War. Although they often had Carthage born military commanders such as Hannibal and Hamilcar, the military consisted of paid mercenary soldiers and commanders. This type of military had no particular loyalty to Carthage other than that they were paid to fight. If Carthage did not meet the pay demands or the army deserted rather then be captured by Romans, Carthage was always in a situation where their soldiers would desert.
United States Military Cadences are sung in either a marching or running formation of soldiers/cadets. They are sung first by a commander or someone else in the formation that is then repeated by rest of the soldiers in the fomation. Once the commander is finished with one line the others then repeat that same line. The cadence is sung so that there is a lightly upped tone in the voice of Soldiers when the left foot hits the ground. (i.e. HERE we GO again, SAME old STUFF again MARCHING down THE avenue SAME old STUFF and WELL be THROUGH.)
