I, being born in Nova Scotia, understood that the British came by and put a lot of the Acadians on ships and shipped them out and a lot of them ended up in Louisiana. There was a story about Evangeline and Gabriel. They were seperated, and I don't believe they saw each other again. I believe it is a long poem by Longfellow. I do know there is a statue of Evangeline in a town called Grand Pre, in Nova Scotia. I believe the name Cajuns came from Acadians but maybe through the ages got slurred into the word cajuns. Maybe because of the Southern accent.
