This can not be answered. So many different planes were fielded, over many years in different theaters of war that they are not entirely comparable in terms of "domination". For example... The pre-eminent Bomber in Europe would have to be the B-17. Yet the B-29 was the only plane capable of carrying an atomic bomb. One could suggest that having two airplanes force the capitulation of Japan qualified as a pretty dominating aircraft. The British had the spitfire and Hurricane... both fine in their time, but never managed to make much in the way of second generation fighters during the war. The Messerschmitt 109 was one of the longest serving and best performing fighters for Germany... but the Messerschmitt 262 was the first operational Jet fighter and easily outperformed the 109... although it came so late as to not see much action. On the Japanese side, the Zero was a well regarded plane, but pretty much the only fighter Japan ever made in significant numbers... It dominated early on... but largely thru Japan's aggressive blitzkrieg-like tactics. The US fielded many lousy fighters... and quite a few hardy, but mediocre planes...but ultimately produced the P-51 Mustang, arguably the best performing propellor driven fighter ever produced.
