The Duke of Wellington strongly disapproved of sensationalizing his victory over Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo. His own account of the battle was geared to not make the battle a piece of literature or a historic event. He had always maintained a disdain for sensationalizing battles where thousands of men were killed.Despite Wellington's wishes, the battle became just the opposite. And, it gave glory to the Duke who sought to avoid the fame it bestowed upon him.

The term "wellies" is short for Wellington boots, which were named after Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington. He was a British military leader who became famous for his victory in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The boots were designed based on his specifications to provide protection and comfort for soldiers during wet and muddy conditions.
