There were several events that could be termed revolutions in Russia. The two most commonly referred to are those of around 1905 - a general revolution and period of unrest - and of 1917 - the Bolshevik revolution and overthrowing of the tsardom.

Both shared the same causes: discontentment with the tsardom, poverty of the masses, lack of control over the government by most, and a growing need for change to the underlying system in power in Russia. Explaining every cause in detail would take many essays and lectures, so see the related links for more detail on each revolution or enrol in a Russian history course.

Many causes:

war, extreme poverty, reversal of progress in the last 20 years, amassing capital in foreign banks, high concentration of proletariat in major cities, oppression of minorities, weak tzar Nicolas II.

American revolution was caused by the acts. Stamp act, the quartering act, the navigation acts and also the proclamation of 1763.

The France revolution was caused by mostly the economy and social problems.

many middle class people wanted a greater role in politics and peasants wanted more freedom. Governments and the higher , upper classes couldn't do anything about it and the harvests were bad also.

So for the American Revolution aka the American War of Independence the causes were simply:

  • Increased taxes
  • Mass government control by the British Imperial system.
  • Violence between the vigilante settlers and the British military

For the French Revolution was caused as a result of:

  • Increased cost of living, super high inflation resulting from the losses France endured from the Seven Years' War.
  • Increased government debt
  • Super high taxes
  • Dwindling middle class
  • Shortage in agricultural production
  • Increased tensions and division between the ruling class and the ordinary mass populous
  • Starving peasants
  • Resentment towards the Monarchy.

The Russian revolution was caused as a result of:

  • Russia's humiliating failures on a geopolitical stage. e.g defeated by Imperial Japan, Imperial Germany etc.
  • A small number of ruling elite who lived in prosperity while the silent majority of the country lived in poverty.
  • The Tsar and his family were seen as far more German than they were Russian
  • Starvation of Eurasian peasants.
  • The ruling elite and rich oligarchs and nobility reaping the benefits from the hard labour of the under classes.
  • Religious Fanaticism limiting progress and prosperity for the nation
  • Rise of Left wing anti-monarchist anti-capitalist groups
  • Staggering inflation and thus cost of living
