What's so special about a Hot Wheels Volkswagen van (called a Beach Bomb) that a collector paid $72,000 for it? Well, it's one of the original rear-loading Beach Bombs, and is also the only known hot pink one. The original van design had two surf boards sticking out of the back (hence, the "rear-loading"). Unfortunately, those Beach Bombs were too narrow to work well on the Hot Wheels race track, so the design was changed to make it wider and more stable on the track, with the surfboards stored in compartments on the sides (no longer "rear-loading"). So, original rear-loading, one of a kind hot pink, and lots of nostalgia adds up to the highest priced Hot Wheels (so far)!
