If I remember right that was Coventry. The Germans were not testing anything however. They had no idea that their code had been broken. If the British had taken any exyraordinary measures to protect Coventry though, that could have given it away. Therefor the British did not evacuate the town nor give it any additional air defence. That was a very difficult decision but in the calculus of war it is often necessary to balance the cost in lives now against a greater one later on. Michael Montagne
