In this method oil droplets in the form of mist was produced by an atomiser and they were allowed to enter through a tiny hole in the upper plate of electrical condenser.The downward motion of these droplets was viewed through a telescope wid micrometer eye peice. By measuring the rate of fall of these droplets, Millikan was able to measure the mass of oil droplets. Robert Andrews Millikan was able to generate a stream of oil drops with a known and uniform mass. The drops were electrically charged and then allowed to to enter through a tiny hole in the upper plate of an electrical capacitor. The voltage across the capacitor plates was altered to control the rate of the fall of the oil drop against the force of gravity. By measuring the rate of the fall of droplets and the voltage applied Millikan was able to find the charge of the electron.

of charge on one electron or one proton. No charge lessthan that much exists.
