If you aren't American, I suppose I somewhat understand your questioning, but if you are American... HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW THIS. Continue if you're not American or under 10yrs old: The purpose of the Declaration was for the American colonies to declare independence from England to form the United States. On the Declaration, it states reasons why the colonists disliked King George III and why they wanted to break away. There are more detailed explanations that are elsewhere on the internet.

The purpose of the Declaration of Independence was to declare the American colonies' independence from British rule and to articulate the ideals and principles upon which the new nation would be built. It states that all men are created equal, endowed with certain unalienable rights, and that governments are instituted to secure these rights. It also listed grievances against King George III and proclaimed the colonies' intention to form a new nation.
