No-one knows. She went missing from her home in Berkshire, leaving a note saying that she was going to Yorkshire. She was found in Yorkshire eleven days later, in a hotel in Harrogate.

This happened after her husband archie left her having had an affair, she obviously had a nervous breakdown...it was never really explained, and it was understood that she did not wish to talk about it.
