∙ 12y agoWWI started because Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by a Serb nationalist on his lovely visit to Serbia. This caused Austro-Hungary to ragequit on Serbia and declare war on July 28, 1914. Austro-Hungary grabs a few friends like Germany and sends troops in on France, which is Serbia's friend. Germany invades neutral Belgium, and Britain declares war on Germany.
...So basically, some idiot Serb went and done killed a dude with a lot of friends (alliances.)
