Danish astronomer Tycho/Tyge Brahe (1546-1601) is immensely important for two reasons:

Observing and measuring the (rough) distance to a Supernova, thereby proving that the firmament was not a god-given stable sphere, but a dynamic system.

Making the most accurate measurements of planetary positions available at that time and for a long time thereafter. Brahe data was used by Kepler to develop his laws.

Oddities about Tycho Brahe? Where to start! He was a brawler and a fighter, and had a chunk of his nose cut off in a duel. To hide the disfigurement, he wore an artificial nose, which legend says was of copper.

He was given an island off Denmark to be his home and observatory. It was so cold that he had a pit excavated, and placed measuring circles placed around the bottom. That way he could watch the stars and planets, while being out of the constant cold wind.
