What weekend jobs can a 13- or 14-year-old get in Norfolk Virginia?

In Virginia, a 13-year-old cannot. A 14-year-old can work up to 18 hours a week during the school year, no more than 3 hours on a school day or 8 hours on a non-school day. A permit is required. See the Child Labor Work Permit Issuing Officer at your school.

City of Norfolk Holds Summer Job Fair for Teens April 11

The City of Norfolk will hold a summer job fair for the 2009 Summer Earn

and Learn Program 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11 at the Norfolk Scope.

The Norfolk Summer Earn and Learn Program gives Norfolk youth between the

ages of 14 - 19 the opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, and

learn about public and private service careers. The program runs June 22 -

August 14.

All Norfolk youth between the ages of 14 - 19 who are not attending any

other summer program can apply on-line or at the Employment Training Center at 520

E. Main Street.

Applicants can also complete an application at the job fair.

To qualify, applicants:

* Must be

between the ages of 14 - 19

* Must be a

resident of Norfolk

* Must be

able to complete the program commitment

Norfolk Youth with physical disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Applications are accepted through April 17.
