With my first child i craved chedder chex mix, which i never ate before and of course dill pickles. With my second child i craved those hostess cakes i could never get enough of them, which explains my 70 lbs weight gain. haha. Before i knew i was pregnant with my 1st child I smoked. Well ciggs tasted really different and i couldn't smoke and about 1 month later i found out i was pregnant. With my second child when the ciggs started tasting funny i knew i was pregnant!!

My cravings currently are cold (and has to be cold) fruit salad from the can as well as water melon and oven southern fried chicken. I even crave innocence smoothies. All these cravings and I'm only 7 weeks pregnant!

If you eat a disco ball you probably have an eating disorder known as "PICA." It is an eating disordered diagnosed when a person eat nonfood items.
That is a disorder called pica.

Pica is an eating disorder that makes a person crave nonfood items such as staples our other dangerous objects.
No, it's not. Craving non-food items like plastic is something called pica. If you're having cravings for plastic you need to talk to your doctor so they can monitor you. Pica can become an overwhelming urge and lead to ingesting things that are very harmful for the baby. It is usually an indication of anemia, though generally the things you crave contain no iron.
No, it is not. Pica is eating substances with no nutritional value, such as ice, dirt, clay, starch, detergent, etc. Since ice cream and pickles are food items, they are considered just your standard strange pregnancy cravings! :-)
General Merchandise is widely considered to be nonfood items. For example, a grocery store is generally broken up into the grocery section and the general merchandise section. This may include cleaners, personal hygiene products, paper goods, seasonal items such as cards and decor, and auto/electrical items.
People who eat non-food items have a condition called Pica. A common variant of Pica is a compulsion to eat chalk, coal, baking powder, talc or other items with a powdery texture. While Pica is not necessarily harmful, it can be, (baking powder isn't going to kill you, but talc might!) so if you are exhibiting symptoms, you should see your doctor. Pica tends to run in families and becomes pronounced during pregnancy. (Two members of my family who weren't Pica sufferers got cravings for coal during their pregnancies. After they had the babies they were both fine again.) Pica can sometimes be a signal that a certain mineral is missing from your diet, which is why your body manufactures the cravings. Take a look at what you are eating and see if you are getting enough calcium, zinc, iron, etc. Pica is sometimes linked to emotional problems. Neglected children sometimes develop Pica, as do anorexics. However, just because a person has Pica does NOT necessarily mean they are neglected or have low self-image. In conclusion: * See your doctor * Ask if anybody else in your family has it * If the symptoms appeared suddenly, take a pregnancy test :-) * Check your diet for mineral deficiencies * Try to satisfy the cravings with food items, not dangerous chemicals!
