Sally Ride is a great role model for a lot of women. She was born on May 26, 1951 as a normal child into a normal family. But she wouldn't stay that way. On June 18, 1983, Sally Ride became the first women to go into space. It was a day that would forever go down in history. Also In the 1980's, AIDS was identified. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Now everybody knows that AIDS is a terrible thing. But, it is actually great that it was identified, for a couple of reasons. Now, doctors can notice if anybody has acquired it and let them know about it. On August 31, 1961, the Berlin Wall was constructed. Most people know why the Berlin Wall was put up. Well here's the story of how it was taken down. The Berlin wall was put up during the cold war to separate Germany. But there were some problems. The wall was put up in the middle of the night, so if for some reason you were from the east side but on the west side, or from the west side but on the east side it was you're tough luck. There was no way to across over the wall, so you lost your family and friends.Entertainment was a very popular thing in the 80's. There were some great movies, such as Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Batman, and E.T. Indiana Jones is a movie staring Harrison Ford, whom also played in the 1970's successful movie series, "Star Wars."Some famous television series in 1980's were both comedies, The Cosby Show and Cheers. Cheers was a very successful show about a group of friends in Boston who sat together at a bar and talked about "real-life" issues.Other entertainment in the 80's was the famous singer, Michael Jackson and the award winning book, Sarah Plain and Tall. Micheal Jackson has produced and sang more award-winning songs, videos, and performed at the most sold-out concerts than any other musician. The 80's were most definitely a fun, exciting, and entertainment packed decade.During the 80's, there were many fads and fashions. For fashion, there was the power suit (for women), Reebok shoes, RayBan sunglasses, and the "yuppie look". If you ever saw your parents wearing "the yuppie look", you would probably die of laughter. As of right now, both Reebok shoes and RayBan sunglasses are still in style. There were many inventions in the the 80's. Here are a couple of the most famous, the CD. and the first space shuttle.
In the mid-1960's Philips (Dutch Elect Company) started working on the compact disc. Everybody knows how Michael Jordan won six NBA Titles in the 90's. Everybody knows how Mike made the Bulls the best team of the 90's with his amazing techniques and abilities. But, he had to start somewhere. In 1984, Michael Jeffries Jordan entered the NBA. He came out of one of the best colleges in the nation, The University of North Carolina (UNC). But, he wasn't always famous. Jordan was one of the best basketball players at UNC, but nobody noticed. One the reasons why he went unnoticed was because he was surrounded by older great players, such as James Worthy and Sam Perkins.
