What were the beliefs of the German society during the Holocaust?

The vast majority of German society was not in favor or any Anti-Semitism. They had been programed and brainwashed by years of Nazi dogma into believing that the Jews were responsible for Germany loosing WWI. They were an easily identifiable group and therefore easy to blame. There was also an environment of fear established by the government that if a citizen didn't agree with the official governmental ideals, they were labeled "anti-social" and were subject to the same treatment that the Jews, Gypsies and other non-conformists could expect.

∙ 14y agoPossibly that it was a combination of payback time for the terms of surrender at the end of WW1 & that they were intoxicated by the thought of power demonstrated by a certain A Hitler. This obviously doesn't justify their fascist invasion of sovereign nations in the middle of the 20th century though!
