1. Classical Antiquity:

There was an increased interest in the grand literatures of the Greek and Romans. Allusions to Greek and Roman characters in Shakespeare's dramas and revival of the theatres along with promotion of the epic are examples.

2. Humanism:

Renaissance held the Human being as the SUpreme Being and distinguished him from the other beings for his faculty of reason. The speeches of Hamlet and Macduff are considerable here.

3. Political reformation:

The concept of hierarchy came into being and intruding in other's spaces became a trend. It resulted in a number of political upheavals. Macbeth and his queen's design to kill Banquo and ascend the throne is a suitable example here.

4. Imitation:

Literature as an imitation of reality, as a 'mirror to life' than mere imitation of the classical masters was promoted. Shakespeare's dramas speak volumes about it.

5. Religious Reformation:

People began to question the Pope and the natural phenomena as believed earlier. Copernican theory brought about a revolution and the people peeped into the deeper secrets of life and existence. Marlowe's Faustus is a considerable figure here.

it depends on the specific type of art form. There was mannerism, which was characterized by odd poses and distortions, such as seen in the works of Pontormo. They quote for the Renaissance was Da Vinci's statement "Man is the measure of all things". In this sense, the individual became the subject of art. The church mainly used art to portray passion, emotion, and drama in order to bring people back to the faith. You will find that many works of art have either a religious theme, or a classical theme. The Baroque movement had 3 movements. There was Florid Baroque in Rome, Classical Baroque in the palace of Louis XIV of France, and Restrained Baroque in the North with Rembrandt. There was much use of line, shadow, and color.

There are various characteristics of renaissance art that make it easy to identify. Much of renaissance art included religious themes. There was also a lot of mythological paintings as well as paintings depicting history. Perspective was introduced during this time, meaning that instead of a painting looking flat, things could seem as though they were in the background or foreground. Things were also more proportioned than previous works of art.
