Sam Clemens (Mark Twain) was the sixth if seven children, only four of whom survived childhood. His brothers were Orion, Henry, Benjamin, and Pleasant. His sisters were Pamela and Margaret.
He was working on a riverboat when it exploded. He lived through the explosion but seared the insides of his lungs. He probably died of a morphine overdose that Twain himself ordered because he didn't want his brother to be in pain.
