This list includes only Great Powers that are European. European countries have formed the vast majority of Great Powers over history. The United States first became a Great Power in 1900 and remains so today. Japan became a Great Power around the same time and remained so up until 1946. Japan became a Great Power once more in 2000, but only in terms of economic power, like Germany. China became a Great Power in 1946 and remains so today.
Germany is the most powerful, but the degree of actual domination is not that great; the countries of Western Europe have an amicable and cooperative union.
