According to the United Stated Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) database, North Carolina has many recognized species of plants, both cultivated and non-cultivated. A state search of the database returns 13,547 results in the scientific names category.

Among the plants listed for South Carolina are: okra, Indian mallow, velvet leaf, copperleaf; threeseed mercury – slender, pineland, and common; starbur, yarrow, common yarrow, western yarrow; madam gorgon, spotflower, monkshood, sweetflag, calamus, baneberry, maidenhair fern, sandbag death camas, zinnia, wildrice, zizia, and viperina, just to name a few.

Selecting a clickable scientific name will provide you with a plant profile. This profile provides all the know information about that plant and in some cases may provide a photograph or drawing or the plant.

Alternately, if you know the scientific name or common name of a plant, you may use the search feature to find out more about the plant. This option will provide a list of all the plants by that name that are in the database along with each scientific name and common name, as well as list the number of photographs available for those plants. The best option if you wish to see photographs or drawings of plants in your state is to use the image gallery.
