well our bodies will remain there until judgment when our souls will once again be joined with our bodies. Those who believed in Christ will receive a glorified body and go to heaven, and those who didn't will go to hell.

Revelation 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyones name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

The Bible Teaches that We Sleep in the Grave

When God pronounced sentence upon Adam (and Eve) He said in Genesis

(Genesis 3:18-19) . . .. 19 In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return."

Adam returned to the dust from which he was taken. No heaven, no fiery torment. Later in Ecc 9:5 The condition of the dead is described as one of no conscious awareness:

(Ecclesiastes 9:5) 5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, . .

Jesus described death as like being asleep when he was about to resurrect Lazarus.

(John 11:11-15) 11 He said these things, and after this he said to them: "Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep." 12 Therefore the disciples said to him: "Lord, if he has gone to rest, he will get well." 13 Jesus had spoken, however, about his death. But they imagined he was speaking about taking rest in sleep. 14 At that time, therefore, Jesus said to them outspokenly: "Lazarus has died, 15 . . .

But this sleep in death is not permanent. The resurrections Jesus performed were but a sample of what he will due during judgment day mentioned in the previous answer. He said that all those in the common grave of mankind (Hebrew-Sheol, Greek-Hades, English-Hell or pit) will come out. (John 5:27-30) . . .. 28 Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment. Eventually there will be no more death. As quoted in Rev 20 above, death and Hades will be thrown into the lake of fire, which pictures eternal destruction. (not eternal torment; God is Love)

How gratifying to know that the dead do not suffer and cant hurt us either. In the resurrection they will have opportunity to show by their deeds whether they end up with endless life, or death with no hope of life.

will rise up NO MOREJob 7:9 As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.

Isaiah 26:14 They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory.

Our body will become the lowest rung in the food-chain ladder.

What we do know is that the body decomposes.

Many believe that something called a soul separates from the body and lives eternally in heaven or hell, according to the life that the person lived. When and how this occurs depends on what religion, and even what denomination within that religion, you belong to. You see, this part can only be answered by opinion, until we get some kind of proof that heaven and hell even exist.
