Answer dated 8th March 2012. Chrysler Sebring 2002, 2.7V6 4 door LXi Sedan. I shopped around and surprisingly, the best price I got was from my local Chrysler dealer. The water pump runs off the timing chain and is in an insanely ridiculous place - inside the engine crank-case. The boffins at Chrysler must have been very, very stoned when they approved that particular piece of design genius. Labor charges make up most of the cost due to the pump's horrible location and the time it takes to get at it. Since you will have to spend the money getting to the pump, you would be mad not to change the timing chain while you're there. My car has done 127k on the original water pump, so should be good for at least another 100k now the job is done. My trusted private mechanic's boss quoted be an eye-popping £2,088. Chrysler quoted $1,310 including tax. Parts and labor warrantied for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first. By comparison, my wife's Mercury Sable needed a water new pump and that cost $350.00, all in. Ouch. Good luck with your repair!
