What would cause lines on the screen of an older rear projection tv set?

In technical terms, your G2 adjustment is out of whack. If you're not a qualified technician and don't know how to properly go about adjusting it, you'll cause more damage than you know, if you try it yourself. Call a qualified TV tech in to make the adjustment.
