The ocean currents do many things. The flow moves nutients around the world, bringing up items from deep in the ocean to the surface, where they feed animals and plants. The available supply of oxygen would likely go down due to fewer plants being fed. Which would result in fewer fish for food supplies.

They also move large quantities of heat around, moving heat from the equitorial regions to the northern climes. Loss of these currents would change the climate of many areas of the world, making many areas much colder. There is likely to be some major changes in preciptation as a result, meaning more drought in some areas.

Yea umm I'm a different person but think of "The Day After Tomorrow". I realize that that is probably a very stupid example but in some parts of the world that could very possably be the case. In others it could just as likely be a very large over heated desert. or a very large freezing bowl of sand and nothing........or rock and nothing. Depends on the area.

What would happen if all the isthmuses in the world disapeared?

There would no longer be any need for canals like the Suez Canal and Panama Canal. Ships could simply sail directly from ocean to ocean. Huge changes in sea life would be expected as ocean currents would change considerably.

What will happen to earth if the convection currents stopped?

THE EARTH WOULD END. All things would stop eventually, leaving a hot core and a very, VERY dead Earth. Earth would PROBABLY stop moving, disrupting the Solar System. SO: Convection currents, if you stop, the universe will END.
