A cat uses his whiskers to determine whether an entrance is wide enough for him to pass. With no whiskers, he will not have that warning and is much more likely to get into places he cannot get out of. Whiskers grow back very slowly, so one could expect a long series of extrications from small and inaccessible places like the insides of walls and furniture while they are growing back.
A cat's whiskers let him know if the space he's trying to squeeze himself through is too tight for him. A cat's whiskers are approximately the same width as his body, so if he tries to squeeze in behind the radiator, for example, and the space isn't wide enough for his whiskers, he knows it's also not wide enough for his body.
Yet somehow, they still get stuck sometimes.
If you cut off your cat's whiskers, he would get stuck behind things a lot more often. But eventually they would grow back. However, it would still be a cruel, sick thing to do, so please don't.
Nothing Its whiskers helps the cat say somehting it is too small to fit in.
Added: It would probably not bother domestic housecats THAT much, but they are allegedly useful by felines in determining if they can enter small narrow spaces or not.
Not directly, no; there is nothing life-threatening at the base of its whiskers that you could damage by cutting them. However, a cat uses his whiskers to determine the size of openings he is trying to get through; without whiskers, he is very likely to misjudge how much space he has, and will end up crawling into spaces too small for him to get out of. Trapped in such a space, he could easily die before he is found.
Well the cat would be uneven and lopsided.
I dont know if its the same with dogs but my cats wiskers got cut off. It didnt seem to hurt him and they grew back in about a week.
Cats whiskers are used to let the cat know if they will fit through a area. If a cats whiskers are cut it throws off their sense of balance also.
A cat can't balance without its whiskers. Cutting a cats whiskers off is cruel and you'd have to be a complete jackass to do that to an animal
Cats who have no tails can still twist about and land on their feet. There are cats who are born without tails, and cats who get their tails caught and cut off, and they can do it. But if the cat had a tail that is just fine, don't cut it off.
I believe so, but it would be hard because cats need their whiskers to feel how big a space is and if they can get through it. cat whiskers are the same width of the cats body, so I'm guessing they do grow to mach the cats body width
Do not cut your rabbit's whiskers because they are important sensory tools that help a rabbit navigate in front of them (a blind spot). However, in the accidental case that you do, do not worry; the whiskers will grow back.
Its impossible for a dog to not have whiskers unless someone cut them off like they dont have common sense
its just part of the normal shedding process.
The Mother cats chew them off to "low down" the kittens.
If you cut or trim a cats whiskers they will lose their scence of direction. So they could possably lose their way home; And end up finding your cat somewhere!!!! (DEAD) HA HA HA HA HA HA
Cats use their whiskers as a guideline for the size of their head. Say a cat is trying to fit through a hole and his whiskers rub, then he knows that he will get stuck if he continues into the hole.
If the whisker was cut, yes it will grow back. Sometimes if a whisker is burned it will not grow back.Whiskers are hair shafts, just like the rest of a cat's fur. Like every single hair on a cat's body they will periodically shed and then regrow. So yes their whiskers grow back. :)NO! THEY DO NOT GROW BACK! Just kidding. They do grow... :)yes they do
