The first observance of Father's Day is believed to have been held July 5 1908 at the Central United Methodist Church in Fairmont, West Virginia. In 1909, Mrs. John B. Dodd of Washington, arranged a tribute for her father on June 19, 1910. She was the first to suggest an official Father's Day observance. A bill was introduced in 1913 to make it an official holiday but it wasn't made a permanent holiday until 1976 by President Nixon.

β 9y agoThere seems to be some discrepency, but since it is the earliest date the first known celebration was July 5, 1908 in a church in Fairmont, West Virginia by Dr. Robert Webb. There is also a claim that the first celebration took place at the Central Methodist Episcopal Church in Spokane, Washington at the behest of Sonora Smart Dodd to honor her father. It happened on June 19, 1910. She was the first to solicit the idea of having a day to honor all fathers.
