What year does Naruto take place?

well not much is known of this question,but u can tell it kind of takes place in the present because the only things they dont have are cars and guns they do have Cranes and tractors just not cars. Guns dont stick to the ninja way. Thats all i have too say also masashi kishimoto says that it is modern times.
