The theme of it is vampires! I love the series!
It's not your fangs blood sucking kind though but it is good!
To go into detail:
Boys go to freak show, one suspects performer is vampire, other ends up being turned into a half vampire and has to fake his death. The rest is for you to know if you read it.
One of the life lessons of Cirque du Freak is the importance of choices and consequences. The protagonist's decisions lead to both positive and negative outcomes, emphasizing the impact of one's actions. Additionally, the series explores themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and the complexities of good versus evil.
Personally, its not a story i would consider as 'deeply meaningful' and it doesn't really have themes. I think its more of the author having a bit of fun.
But you could say loyalty is a theme. Darren approaches Crepsley and makes a deal to save his friends life.
Its also a bit of 'right and wrong'/karma. When the characters make the wrong decision they have to live with the consequences or else try patch things up. Darren steals octa and his friend gets injured, which he has to fix by giving up his human life. - At the time the characters make this decisions they are never fully aware of the consequences until much later, when it becomes too late - darren becomes a half-vampire but doesn't realize he is also giving up mortality to a greater extent. - Their inability to logically consider the effects of their actions suggests a lack or maturity and ignorance/naivety, which could also be a potential theme. It may just be a reflection on where the author was at the time of his life, which was mid to late teens, i think.
Revenge is also suggested, through steve's comments towards the end, and crepsley's forcing darren to choose between humanity and the life of his friend.
Another factor is perhaps how much is our humanity worth.
Do not steal Spiders from vampires that end up turning you into a half-vampire so you have to leave everybody that's close to you and then you go on a crazy adventure that leads to your death at book 12.
Don't steal poisonous spiders from vampires.
But serious, it would probably be don't steal, Take responsibilities for you actions, be a loyal friends, something along that line
You can do anything you set your mind to

In my opinion, real vampires are a mix between Cirque du Freak and Twilight vampires. I think they..... Bite people to change them (Twilight) have blood that is poisonous to animals (Cirque du Freak) are really pretty and very pale (Twilight) have breath that knocks people out (Cirque du Freak) have really strong sharp fingernails (Cirque du Freak) are stronger and faster than humans (Cirque du Freak, Twilight) have to drain the blood of their victims (Twilight) aren't real organized (Twilight) have to drink from humans (Cirque du Freak) live forever (Twilight) have to be killed with weapons but recover easier than humans (Cirque du Freak) can control themselves over blood with practice (Cirque du Freak, Twilight)
Cirque Du Freak is Not scary but gory and Bloody but a very interesting book
