They are normally only visible inthe sub-arctic and arctic regions. There is much mystery as to what causes them. Somewhat oddly they do not normally interfere with radio traffic but did cause some tuning problems ( which were compensated for by switching in resistances and compensations) in transatlantic telegraph message cables such as those at the French Cable station. The route of the cables was not in arctic waters. still things happen, the world turns. At one time in the late thrities the Aurora Borealis was visible in the New York Metro area- and the weather was cooperative an aunt of mine saw it. she said it looked like a barrage of distant strobe lights vaguely reddish on a movie screen or curtain. For some reason the phenomenon did not photograph. interesting question. the scientific name literally means Northern Dawn, as Aurora was the goddess of the Dawn.
There isn't really any way to predict when the aurora borealis will be visible, or where. We do know that auroras are more common during the active part of the solar cycle, which ought to be in about 4 years, and are more common at higher latitudes.
But auroras have been visible this year, which is an extended solar minimum, and have been visible as far south as Florida and Mexico.
All I can suggest is, keep your eyes open for it any evening. To see some nice galleries of aurora photos, visit spaceweather.com.
All year long, although the most active months are March and September. It all has to do with how the geomagnetic weather is.
The spring and autumnal equinoxes are the best time to see the aurora.
Yes. but only in up-north or away from the city. It only happens RARELY!
Yes. Its not likely for you to see them though. The Northern Lights occur around 4% of all nights in that area. And remember you can't see them if it's cloudy.
winter like in dec...
March thru Sept.
. I would expect to find nonfoliated rock next to a lava flow because the rock can form when rock is subjected to high temperatures. Hornfels, which often forms when magma or lava touches other rock, is nonfoliated.
I added a link to the 'Related Links' bit. It is a good place to find the weather Forecast for the next few days.
The next time a asteriod will hit earth will be in the next 1 million years.
It depends on how much petrol we make in the next 20 years i suppose. You never know when it will run out but i suggest keeping update with the news in the 20 years to find out.
copper because it has a free valence electron where as zinc has its shells completely full making it harder to delocalize the electron so it can conduct.
The Aurora Borealis has not been seen in the UK since 2005. However now (2010) we are moving into a time of increased solar storm activity, so there will be more displays of the Northern and Southern Auroras in the next few years. Chances of seeing them in the UK are about 10%. See the video at the attached link
Unfortunately, auroras don't occur on a schedule. Aurora borealis are generally associated with coronal mass ejections from the Sun. They are normally visible in northern latitudes above about 40 degrees north, so Canada and the northern US are the best observing locations, plus northern Europe, Iceland, and the northern parts of Russia and Siberia. You can often get a 1-2 day advance notice on spaceweather.com.
The aurora borealis activity increases & decreases on an 11 year cyle, which next peaks in 2013. So, we are getting close to the peak even right now. See the related link for more detailed forecast information.
Next to water pump.

colorado. right next to denver. (i was the 2 days ago!!)
When I was attending college in Athens, West Virginia (Concord College) I witness the Northern Lights one evening when returning to my dorm. It was awesome - like a curtain of light that had fluency and many colors. The next day my physics professor said there was a phenomenon the night before and the Northern Lights were visible in West Virginia.
You can't. Well if you find one, the next day you will be banned
ONe you rock for that and then you go and find your next mission i luv poptropica
Your local library is a tremendous source of free car repair information. Usually, if they don't have it, they will find it for you at another library in their system and have it for you at YOUR library the next day or two. Solar maximum is a period of time in which solar flares are more common and more powerful. Sometimes there are coronal emissions that send a massive amount of plasma hurling through space at speeds close to or over one million miles an hour. All they really do is cause the Aurora Borealis (northern lights), however if the earth were to be hit hard enough that the plasma overwhelms the magnetic field it could strip away our atmosphere and earth would be as livable as Mars. The next solar maximum cycle will begin in 2012. Astronomers believe that it will be the most powerful cycle ever seen. So starting in October of 2012 go outside and look for the Aurora Borealis. Last time we had a maximum such as this the lights were seen as far south as Rome, Italy.
There is no official word as to when the next free burrito day at Chipotle.
