At least wait until you are off any pain medications. The pharmacist does not approve of mixing vicodin with alcohol. I had a fairly large molar extracted. I asked the oral surgeon specifically if I could drink beer that day. He said yes. He said only cold food day one, then resume normal diet, not chewing on that side until day three. No suction (straw, cigarette), may cause dry socket (loss of blood clot). I chose beer plus 400 mg ibuprofen over vicodin. Feeling pretty good. Got vicodin for back up another day if needed at work or pain too severe for ibuprofen. Beer also relieves physical trauma, reduces psychological stress, and relieves hunger with empty calories for limited eating ability. (No scientific research to support this. Just personal experience. Still got my blood clot 8 hours later.)
