- I am very sorry to hear of the passing of your brother. Your sister-in-law is not ignoring you; trying to be cruel or distant, but each individual grieves in their own way. True he was your brother and you are grieving, but he was her husband and she is obviously grieving in her own way and not thinking correctly at the present time. Many people want to help someone in the family deal with the death of someone very close to them, but, sometimes people have to let that person grieve (which is normal) and have some time to themselves. You could send her a nice card with a note in it and explain that you wanted to give her some time to herself during this difficult time and would enjoy it if she would give you a call when she feels up to it and have lunch with you one day. If you do not hear from her in a month then phone her and see how she is doing and perhaps by then she will feel more like going out with you.
