Great Britain has never become a nation.It is merely an artificial constitutional construction put in place to try to fuse the nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland into one martial entity for the purposes of furthering the aims of the empire.
States are not nations, as they have no national or ethnic basis.
Many people of England are very angry by the insistence of the Mr. Brown's government at Westminster who are trying to force an outmoded 'Britishness' on English schoolchildren, who cannot understand why they are not allowed to be simply English.
This overbearing attitude has typified the bullying attitude of "Great Britain" since it's formation in 1707.
England itself became the first nation state in Europe in 937AD.therefore it rejects the
identity "British" as do the Scots, Welsh and Irish.

∙ 9y agoWhen James Stuart, King of Scotland, assumed the throne of England as well, upon the death of Elizabeth I in 1603, he began the process of uniting the kingdoms into Great Britain. It became official in 1707.

∙ 7y agoGreat Britain, is made up of England, Scotland and Wales, three separate countries. Ireland is a completely separate island, so it is not part of Great Britain. In January 1801, a time when Ireland was under British rule, "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland" was created. So Ireland was part of the United Kingdom, but not part of Great Britain.
In 1922, Ireland was partitioned and this created what is now "The Republic of Ireland" and Northern Ireland. The Republic of Ireland is independent and Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom. It is now known as "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland".
