How old is Glinda?

It's unknown how old Glinda is. Fans, readers, and specialists of the original Oz book series by Lyman Frank Baum [May 15, 1856-May 6, 1919] suggest that she may be immortal. Throughout his 14 books, Baum indeed presents Glinda as always beautiful, powerful, and wise.

But if she's not immortal, then Glinda may be the same age as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West from 'The Wizard of Oz'. Elphaba's story is told, decades after Baum's death, in the form of a prequel by Gregory Maguire [b. June 9, 1954]. Maguire has Elphaba and Glinda be class and room mates. He puts Elphaba's age at 38, at the time of her disappearance under a bucketful of water thrown by Dorothy Gale.

Glinda didn't die at the hands of the six authors who are ka the contributors to the Famous Forty Books of the Oz series. Remember that she most likely is the most powerful of the witches in the beautiful, enchanted, magical lands of Oz. For she's a sorceress. But the actress who played Glinda in the 1939 film version died, on May 14, 1970. Mary William Ethelbert Appleton ka Billie Burke was born on August 7, 1884. She was 53 years old when she made her youthful appearance during the filming, October 13, 1938-March 16, 1939. She died a couple of months short of her 86th birthday.
