The prophet Jeremiah wrote the book of Jeremiah. It is actually a fairly long book, with 52 chapters in it. Jeremiah is a book in the Old Testament, found after Isaiah and before Lamentations.

Lamentations was also written by Jeremiah, and is like an appendix to the Book of Jeremiah.

A:Jeremiah says that he began his ministry in the thirteenth year of Josiah's reign, which would be about 626 BCE. He continued to serve in Judah until taken to Egypt to escape the Babylonians, in 580 BCE. Of course, he is unlikely to have been occupied writing the Book of Jeremiah throughout this entire period, but would have begun to write the book towards the end of his life, perhaps aided by notes he had written over time.

The Book of Lamentations is also traditionally ascribed to Jeremiah, but this can not be established in spite of the similar style and language, as these are common to several of the prophet's contemporaries. The viewpoint expressed in Lamentations is most unlike his pronouncements in Jeremiah.
