The last confirmed eruption was in February 1884 but the "big one" was on August 27, 1883. The latter produced the loudest sound in recorded history, heard as far away as Australia and China. The shock waves from the blast traveled around the world seven times, producing waves on the River Thames in London. The fall-out caused blood red sunsets for months afterwards.
Actually Mt Krakatoa is still active, since 1927 there have several lesser eruptions. The last one in 2001.
